We are delighted to welcome Ed Patrick to discuss his work as an anaesthetist, navigating his way through emergencies, patients not breathing for themselves and living with a terrifying sense of responsibility. It’s enough to leave anyone feeling numb.
But don’t worry, there’s plenty of laughing gas to be had.

Tickets are £10.00 & include a copy of the book.

Dr Ed Patrick is an anaesthetist and a comedian. He has performed across the UK, including at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and hosts the “Comedians’ Surgery” podcast where he speaks to guests including Joe Lycett, and Rose Matafeo about their health stories and experiences.

Ed also created and presented “Infectious Personalities” broadcast on BBC Radio 2. He has written and performed on BBC Radio 4, for shows “Now Wash Your Hands” and “Newsjack” and writes for The Guardian about the intersection between medicine & comedy.

Swan : Portrait of a Majestic Bird, from Mythical Meanings to the Modern Day
In Discussion with Dan Keel.

Immortalized by artists over the ages yet misunderstood and threatened in the present day. The mute swan – with its orange beak and aura of stately silence – is the breed we know best in Britain. Dan Keel has been captivated by these birds since boyhood, studying their contrasting qualities over more than three decades.

In this discussion Dan speaks up for the mute, answering the essential questions about its nature and its future. Along the way, weaving his first-hand observations into the narrative, he shows us how swans have been portrayed in myth, art and culture for millennia, and how they have been venerated and imitated as well as harmed by humans.
