Working with her daughters Oliviyah and Ysabel the bookshop is a family run business that aims to amplify black voices in the city and the nation. The multi-award winning bookshop in the heart of Brighton, has become a central point for events and some of the best authors in publishing. Afrori craft mornings run every Saturday throughout the year and they have a varied selection of book clubs including their extremely popular Supper Club where a small group of guests enjoy a two course Caribbean meal with a best selling author. Afrori Books is the co founder of Brighton Book Festival, a five day festival that takes place in June each year Guest speakers in 2023 include; AFLO the Poet Alice Slater Alinah Azadeh Annemarie Anang Brandon Taylor Catherine Joy White Charlie Brinkhurst Cuff Colin Grant Diana Evans Dorothy Koomson Farah Karim Cooper Fats Timbo Frances Mensah Williams Hannah Eaton Helen Trevorrow Jimi Famurewa Liv Little Louise Hare Marvyn Harrison Mikaela Loach Nels Abbey Nii Ayikwei Parkes Nikesh Shukla Obioma Ugoala Okechukwu Nzelu Okorie Chukwu Ore Agbaje-Williams Patrice Lawrence Rosanna Amaka Roy McFarlane Salena Godden Sarah Wordlaw Stephen Buoro Sunny Singh Talia Hibbert Yomi Sode. Book clubs are a great place to meet new people and make friends. A safe place to challenge your thinking, to consider issues like colonialism, racism and to talk about being the change.

The Men’s Book club is a space for all of those things. It meets once a month and cost £5. Once you have booked you will be able to download the themes we will be discussing for the book. The Book club is for everybody, it is not a highbrow academic event and most of the conversation is decided by those present.

Get yourself a drink, the pizza is on us. It is a chance to kick back, laugh and just be.

This book club is held at the The Actors upstairs meeting room, 4 Prince's St, Kemptown, Brighton BN2 1RD
