The Foreign Invention of British Art: An Art History with Leslie Primo

This lecture will look at Britain’s fascination with foreign artists and how they came to have such a profound impact on British art and artistic practice. Tracing foreign artists from the Tudor period through to the Renaissance and Baroque, art historian, author and lecturer Leslie Primo will examine questions such as why foreign painters were preferred by patrons and why they came in the first place, how they were greeted by native-born artists and what innovations they brought to Britain?
